About Us

Where Are We Located?

Clevo Books, located in downtown Cleveland, is an independent bookstore that focuses on translated books in fiction and nonfiction. The majority of our book selections and different genres of books were originally written in different languages and then translated into English. We at Clevo Books love exploring foreign cultures as a way to enrich our understanding of our own culture!

Parking Information

Every bus that goes down Euclid Ave stops about two hundred feet from our store at E 9th, and we’re walking distance from the Tower City rapid station. If you’re driving, it’s good to plan ahead. Street parking is available for $1.50/hr for two hours and costs $10.50 for 4 hours (parking is no longer free after 6pm or on weekends). You have to pay via the Parkmobile app. If Huron is full, try Prospect, Chester, or Walnut. There are parking garages nearby, but the best prices we’ve seen are at the PNC garage on Vincent, between E 9th and E 6th streets. $3 for 1 hour, $6 for up to 4 hours before 4pm weekdays. $4 evening rate after 4pm weekdays and all day Saturdays (be sure to check sports calendars so you don’t get caught paying game day rates!). If it’s a nice day and you don’t mind walking a couple of blocks, street spots are usually also available on St. Clair, or there are uncovered lots on E 13th St that might cost less. This information was found on the internet and was current as of the time it was published. Do let us know if you see any changes, but we cannot be held responsible for those changes, we can only update them. Do share any deals you may have spotted as we’ll try to share them here too. We also cannot be held responsible for any experience you have with parking at all, although whatever you share with us will help us inform others.

Our name

The name ‘Clevo Books’ pays homage to our hometown, Cleveland. As the home to over 100 ethnic communities, Cleveland is a microcosm of the entire world. In the same way that Cleveland has attracted so many different immigrants from different cultures around the world, Clevo Books aims to become that bridge between English readers and foreign language writers, through our many different fiction and nonfiction translated books.

Translated Books

Not all books in the world are written in English. Maybe some of us can read foreign languages, but even the greatest polyglots can’t be expected to read in every language. If we want to read the literature of the world, it has to be in a language we can understand. We offer books in translation, because translation will bring us more of the entertaining content from around the world that we want.

Variety of Books

We offer a variety of books that are translated into English, in both fiction and nonfiction. Some genres of books we offer include: classical, modern, and children’s literature, science fiction, philosophy, history, right up to cozy mysteries and crime fiction books, and so much more!

Our Founder

Clevo Books was founded by Cathryn Siegal-Bergman. Cathryn moved to Cleveland at a young age and graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and German. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Translation Studies from the Institute for Applied Linguistics at Kent State University.

Cathryn worked as a freelance translator for various direct clients on different translated books, including publishers. She is a big believer in giving credit to translators who work so hard to provide us with different and unique fiction and nonfiction books!

Cathryn translated different cookbooks and other nonfiction books that then inspired her to create Clevo Books, and she hopes to share some of that same enthusiasm with you!

Come visit Clevo Books today for an international experience like nowhere else in Cleveland!
